AdmissionsConsultants founder and president David Petersam was quoted in a June 4 New York Times article on the impact of high school students' summer activities on college admissions:

Driven largely by increased competition to get into elite colleges and universities, teenagers are jumping from demanding school-year commitments into equally challenging summer activities, school administrators and parents say....

David Petersam, a private college admissions consultant in Vienna, Va., said students have the right idea. "We do encourage our applicants to be busy year-round," he said.

He recommends that teenage clients volunteer during their vacations and enroll in academic summer programs like those at the University of Chicago and Brown, which allow high school students to live on campus and take college courses....
