Rowan College and Cumberland County College officially merged earlier today. The new college’s name is Rowan College of South Jersey. This merger is just the latest in a trend of mergers of smaller colleges. Financial pressures and declining enrollments are driving most of the mergers. By merging, these colleges, in particular, can offer their students more educational opportunities. Consequently, they can also remain competitive, viable institutions for the foreseeable future.
In conclusion, please look at the going concern status of every college you consider. And, if it’s a smaller college with fewer financial resources, don’t be too surprised if it merges with another similarly small college nearby.
