Johns Hopkins dumped its legacy admissions.
Johns Hopkins made some waves when they announced they had quietly dropped their legacy admissions a few years ago. Furthermore, the school announced it was pleased with the results. The school claimed it was able to increase its diversity without lowering its academic standards. Johns Hopkins joins MIT and Caltech as top research universities that do not have a legacy admissions program.
In fact, MIT’s Chris Peterson famously stated, “There is only one way into (and out of) MIT, and that’s the hard way. The people here value that.” We previously reported on calls to end legacy admissions and we believe this bombshell announcement from JHU will only help that cause gain additional momentum.
