A Note on PSAT/NMSQT Books
The PSAT, or PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is jointly owned by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It is normally administered to high school sophomores and juniors although younger students are sometimes invited to sit for it. The two main advantages to taking the PSAT are the practice and exposure for the SAT as well as the opportunity to earn scholarship money.
We do encourage students to take this test seriously and consider it a headstart on the SAT.
For quick reference, here are links to related books we have reviewed:
Barron’s NEW PSAT/NMSQT with CD-ROM, 18th Edition by Ira Wolf, Sharon Green and Brian Stewart
The PSAT is changing to a new format and, quite simply, there isn’t much in terms of selection. We believe this book is going to be helpful, but we haven’t received much direct feedback as yet. Two full-length practice tests are included.
Kaplan PSAT/NMSQT Prep 2019 by Kaplan
Purchasers of the Kaplan guide will find 2 full-length practice tests (one is in the book and the other is online) along with over 1,000 practice questions and the online resources and the Kaplan strategies many of us are so familiar with.
