Add Sacramento State to the list of schools that has accidentally admitted the wrong group of applicants. In their case, however, the students who were accidentally emailed acceptances were already on the waitlist. Furthermore, Sacramento State routinely offers many of its waitlisted applicants spots. In this instance, they didn’t renege on the offers as some schools have done before. (In 2018, Berkeley accidentally emailed a small group acceptances by mistake. It immediately apologized and clarified that the emails were sent by mistake. The acceptance were then pulled.)

As a result, Sacramento State estimates they have about 500 more incoming freshmen this year than anticipated. We believe contributing factors to the school’s decision to honor the accidental acceptances include a fairly manageable number of additional incoming students as well as very similar qualifications that wasn’t going to dilute the academic potential of the incoming class.
