The Johns Hopkins University Earth & Planetary Sciences (EPS) department has dropped its GRE requirement. The EPS department debated the GRE requirement for three years before agreeing to drop the standardized test. All the standard (no pun intended) arguments were raised by the EPS department in their decision to dump the GRE: it’s unfair to less wealthy applicants and it acts as an entry barrier to underrepresented minorities.
