UC Berkeley has dropped the GRE requirements for all of its graduate schools this fall. Over 100 graduate programs on the campus had already voluntarily dropped the GRE requirement for the fall before the collective decision was made to drop it for all of the programs. The decision was made to encourage more applicants, particularly minority applicants.
Associate Professor Damian Elias explained, “We have a major problem with diversity in higher education. By getting rid of (the GRE), we’re kind of hoping to create a more equitable opportunity for students to come into the Berkeley programs.”
