Cornell Graduate Students United hosted a rally that criticized long wait times for understaffed mental health services. Interestingly, Robert Harrison, the chairman of Cornell’s Board of Trustees, attended the union rally. After listening to the students, he accepted their petition for institutional improvements. In conclusion, he stated same-day, in-person appointments will be instituted for mental health services.
Graduate student Natalie Hofmeister stated, “Graduate school puts us in a particularly precarious position as workers. There are studies that show grad students experience disproportionately large amounts of anxiety and depression.”
Some of our website visitors are still exploring their graduate admissions possibilities. And that’s perfectly fine of course! It’s our hope blogs like these help a wider audience understand what a graduate school experience may entail. We don’t want anyone to undertake such an endeavor without managed expectations.
