Business schools, law schools, and medical schools are not the only graduate programs with well-paying jobs for their alumni. Big Tech has been paying big salaries for years and UC Berkeley is an established feeder for these programs.
Graduates of the school’s master’s degree program in cyber security earn median base salaries in excess of $214,000. Additionally, the Class of 2021 for the master of information and data science (MIDS) program earned more than $155,000 on average. Rebecca Andersen, Berkeley’s senior director of student and alumni career development explained, “Our 2021 career report indicates that the data science job market and compensation continue to be strong and growing. Data science is one of the fastest growing career fields in technology and we anticipate salaries will continue to match this demand.”
For comparison purposes, the average Berkeley MBA salary is roughly $12,000 less.
Please don’t see these numbers and make a rash decision to pursue a graduate degree in data science or cybersecurity. Clearly, we encourage you to pursue a field where you will find long-term career satisfaction. And even if you are interested in one of these fields, it’s possible Berkeley would not be the best-fit school for your particular needs. We simply blogged this topic to bring some attention to these fields and their market worth for those readers who may not have otherwise considered them.
