Ken Griffin, Harvard alum and hedge fund billionaire, recently made a $300 million unrestricted gift to Harvard’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences on top of previous donations of $200 million. Consequently, Harvard announced yesterday that the school will be renamed the Harvard Kenneth Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Griffin’s history of generous gifts to Harvard runs deep. In 2014, Ken Griffin made a $150 million donation to Harvard for undergraduate financial aid. That remains the largest single gift for financial aid in Harvard’s history and it has supported more than 600 students. The endowed gift currently supports 288 students.
The Griffin School offers over 50 master’s and doctorate degrees.
Harvard President Larry Bacow explained, “Kens exceptional generosity and steadfast devotion enable excellence and opportunity at Harvard. It has been a great pleasure to get to know Ken throughout my presidency, and I am deeply and personally appreciative of the confidence he has placed in us – and in our mission – to do good in the world.”
