Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board announced it will soon rule on whether students who teach are considered employees. While the announcement linked above didn’t hint how the NLRB would rule, we think it’s a safe assumption that it will rule in favor of the colleges. As a result, we expect the schools will be under no obligation to negotiate with the unions. Consequently, the students would only be able to secure a contract if the schools chose to negotiate with them.
