In Veterinary Schools
Vet school applicants up 19%

The size of the increase was astonishing!

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) announced that 10,273 people applied to veterinary programs for the Fall 2021 school year. This represents a 19% jump from the 8,645 people who applied to vet schools the previous year.

We weren’t the only ones surprised by the size of the increase. The AAVMC itself described the increase as ‘astonishing.’ We expect a similar level of vet school applicants this year and we expect a slight increase in applications as we believe the average applicant will be applying to more vet schools.

Please note that this large applicant jump is causing veterinary school admissions committees to even more carefully scrutinize the sincerity of their applicants. These schools don’t want to admit applicants who felt compelled to find a safe harbor during the pandemic. Instead, they want to graduate professionals who will most likely dedicate the entirety of their career to veterinary medicine.
