If you haven’t yet heard the news, the University of Chicago English department declared that they will only be admitting graduate school applicants interested in “working in and with Black studies.” Our Google alerts blew up this afternoon with article after article on the subject. In a statement published to their website, the department stated, “For the 2020-2021 graduate admissions cycle, the University of Chicago English Department is accepting only applicants interested in working in and with Black studies.”
If you are interested in publishing a dissertation on the likes of Shakespeare, Dickenson, Hemingway, Austen, or Faulkner, don’t waste your time and money applying to the University of Chicago this year.
