As of July 31, 2019 law school applicants were up 3.3% to 62,427. The number of law school applications, however, was down 1.5% to 379,696. So, while the season started with a roar (applicants were up 10.0% and applications were up 14.5% as of November 4, 2018), the season ended with a more modest increase in applicants.
Ultimately, the number of applicants is far more important than the number of applications. We believe the applicant increase is due more to the legal job market than the “Trump Effect.” Please note this is based on our informal and unscientific discussions with applicants.
