JD Journal is reporting that law schools expect the Class of 2023 to be roughly the same size as the Class of 2022. We recently blogged that a late surge in law school applications put the total volume ahead of last year’s pre-COVID total.
We are not surprised by this news. In fact, it meshes up quite nicely with our own anecdotal evidence. Our applicants are largely planning to attend the target schools that admitted them despite the anxiety surrounding the pandemic and starting their law school careers with the prospect of online learning. Furthermore, our own anecdotal evidence points towards an increase in applicants in at least the early part of the coming application cycle.
This appears to be largely driven by the sustained interest in the legal field, a growing resolve that online learning may be here to stay, and a need for a safe harbor for the next three years.
