In Rankings

US News published a “ranking” of the most expensive law schools. The average tuition and fees for out-of-state students at the top ten averaged nearly $70,000. The top five most expensive law schools were:

Columbia University (NY) – $74,995
New York University – $71,304
Cornell University (NY) – $70,274
University of Chicago – $69,975
University of Southern California (Gould) – $68,828

Please keep in mind that these amounts, while very high, represent the “sticker price” for these schools and, as we track for our top 25 law schools, you want to also consider the total expected cost of attendance which deducts the median grant amount multiplied by the number of applicants who receive grants. Often, this makes the most expensive law schools appear a bit more reasonable. And, since those schools tend to have superior placements for their graduates, it should come as no surprise as to why they are not generally hurting for applicants despite their intimidating price tag.
