The University of South Dakota announced that it received a historic gift of $12.5 million from T. Denny Sanford. As a result of the gift, the law school is being renamed after his friend and colleague, David Knudson. David Knudson was a partner in a South Dakota law firm based in Sioux Falls before serving as a South Dakota state senator from 2003 to 2011. He was the Senate majority leader from 2008 to 2011. Knudson next served as Senior Vice President of Sanford Health.
The gift is expected to fund up to ten full-ride scholarships each year. USD President Sheila Gestring explained, “The USD Knudson School of Law is the only law school in the state, and most of our graduates practice in the state and regionally. This gift is very important to continuing law in South Dakota.”
