The University of Texas Regents approved $308 million for the design, development, and construction for the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine’s new five-story and nearly 250,000-square-foot facility. The building is expected to be finished in 2025 and the first cohort will enter next fall.
UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken explained, “This facility provides the physical cornerstone of UT Tyler’s plan to train physicians and meet health care needs across the state, while also growing workforce opportunities and economic development in the region.
Like other new medical schools, it is preliminarily accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). We do not foresee any major issues that could prohibit UT Tyler from gaining full accreditation by the time its first cohort graduates. If you are considering this school, please make sure you understand its primary mission is to serve the needs of its East Texas community and make sure your application and interview reflect a strong match between your long-term interests and the school’s mission.
