In Admissions Statistics

Medical school applications are up almost 17% through the end of August as interest in medical school, most likely fueled by the pandemic, has greatly heightened interest in medical schools across the country. This is very impressive as the rate of the increase has accelerated since the batch of applications received through August 11.

We anticipated there were more applicants who had not yet submitted their applications by August 11, but I don’t believe we would have thought it would be enough to increase the season-to-date percentage increase.

Every year, we stress the importance of clearly articulating why you have a genuine, sincere interest in becoming a physician. Furthermore, this need has always been amplified the later in the cycle your application is submitted. This year, due to the large number of individuals who are applying late because they have been inspired by the recent pandemic, the need for clearly articulating your interest in medical school is all the important.
