A record $95 million donation from philanthropist Dr. Marnix Heersink has resulted in the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s medical school being renamed to the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine. The gift also establishes the Marnix E. Heersink Institute of Biomedical Innovation and the Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health. The donation will help recruit physicians and scientists for priority areas including neurology, oncology, and pulmonology. This donation was accompanied by a $5 million donation from Triton Health Systems which brings the entire donation to a nice, round $100 million.
