In Accreditation

In a move that caught many off guard, the ACGME stripped USC of accreditation for its cardiovascular disease fellowship. This move all but shuts down the fellowship next year. The reasons for the revocation were not made public. However, there is speculation it was related to a recent sexual assault allegation.

The accreditation loss is not only a big loss to the Keck School of Medicine, but also to the overall university. To say USC has experienced some unpleasant press would be a huge understatement. The school certainly didn’t need this bad news. And the timing couldn’t have been worse. We believe (and certainly hope!) USC bounces back from its recent string of bad press. In any event, let this be one more reminder to practice your due diligence on every program you consider.
