In Rankings

US News delayed this year’s rankings release.

The old adage that the only constant is change now applies to the once clockwork-reliable law school rankings from US News and World Report. Earlier this week, US News announced it was delaying the release of its 2023-2024 law school rankings for a week so it could investigate an unusually large number of concerns raised by the schools included in the ranking.

For a bit of background, US News releases their rankings to the law schools early. This is done on the condition the schools respect the confidentiality of this not-yet-publicly available data. It also provides the law schools with a friendly opportunity to raise any concerns before the law school rankings’ official release.

If you are wondering if this unusually large number of concerns is in any way related to the law school rankings boycott, you may just be correct. After all, if you were vehemently opposed to the rankings, why not raise a bunch of concerns and, effectively, raise the costs for the publisher? Finally, it is worth noting the larger-than-expected number of concerns also apply to the medical school and other graduate school rankings in addition to the law school rankings.
